Patrick McElwee is a certified personal trainer and lifelong athlete who brings a thoughtful, well-rounded approach to coaching. Inspired by his father’s career in fitness, Patrick is passionate about helping others improve their health, movement, and performance whether they’re new to training or high-level competitors.
He works with a wide range of clients, from adults looking to build foundational strength to athletes aiming to enhance speed, power, and durability. His background in chiropractic rehab allows him to blend performance training with movement quality and injury prevention.

Spencer thrives in a community that pushes its members to be their best—both inside and outside the gym. He believes in embracing the journey, celebrating progress, and tackling challenges head-on.

Kevin Pendleton is a dedicated coach and athlete with over 17 years of competitive sports experience. After excelling in baseball, football, and swimming, he discovered CrossFit in 2013 and quickly embraced the sport’s challenges and community. Since then, Kevin has competed in some of the top CrossFit events in the world, including Wodapalooza and the Granite Games, while also winning several local competitions such as the Springfield Classic, Galt Games, and South Loop Games.
As a coach, Kevin’s mission is to help athletes reach their full potential by instilling discipline, consistency, and a growth mindset. He brings the same passion and dedication to his coaching that drives his own training. Kevin believes that every decision made today shapes future success, and he is committed to guiding athletes through their journey, helping them build the habits and mindset needed to succeed in the gym and beyond. With years of experience in the CrossFit community, Kevin understands the power of both the physical challenge and the supportive environment it offers. Tyler Smith brings a unique blend of military excellence and professional strength coaching to HG Athletics. A former U.S. Marine, Tyler earned his place in the elite Marine Corps Special Operations Command (MARSOC) through rigorous selection and training, demonstrating unmatched resilience, discipline, and leadership. During his military career, Tyler not only maintained peak physical performance but also led and programmed physical training for his fellow Marines, ensuring they were mission-ready.
As a certified personal trainer, Tyler has years of hands-on experience designing personalized training programs for individuals and groups, focusing on strength development, performance enhancement, and injury prevention. His extensive knowledge, combined with a commitment to proper technique and safety, ensures clients build a solid foundation and achieve sustainable results.
In addition to his work at HG Athletics, Tyler is actively pursuing his EMT and firefighter certifications, further showcasing his commitment to service, community, and continuous personal growth.

Bill Lund, a highly accomplished strength and conditioning coach with over 25 years of experience, recently joined HG Athletics to bring his unparalleled expertise and passion for empowering athletes and individuals alike. Bill’s journey into fitness coaching began during his early career as a collegiate football coach, where he developed a deep understanding of performance enhancement, injury prevention, and athlete development.
Having coached at prestigious institutions like Columbia University, the University of Buffalo (MAC Champions), and Saginaw Valley State University, Bill has worked with athletes across all levels, from middle school to Division 1. His dedication to results-driven coaching and individualized training programs makes him a trusted resource for athletes striving to elevate their performance and individuals seeking improved health and fitness.

Aaron, a Certified Functional Strength Coach Level 1 (CFSC), is dedicated to creating a supportive environment at HG Athletics where individuals of all ages and fitness levels can thrive.
